NATCO
Bus Service
You may take a NATCO bus from Islamabad to Gilgit, which is a government-owned bus operator that links northern Pakistan to the rest of the nation. Independent tourists wishing to go north from Islamabad should consider this as their primary means of transportation. The drivers are very experienced and they drive smoothly.
Gilgit can be reached in around 18 hours and will cost you 2,500 Pakistani rupees if you use a bus. It also provides discount offers for students. It operates three times a day, all overnight, beginning at 4 PM, 8 PM, and 9 PM, although travelers are only allowed on the 9 PM one since the government does not feel safe with tourists going through specific areas of the Karakoram Highway at night, particularly Chilas.
The best time to purchase your bus ticket is 2 to 3 days before your departure, but if you don't have time, you may still buy it at the terminal a few hours before your departure. Other terminals include at Pirwadhi, near the police station, and the I-11/4 sector bus terminal is directly next to a gas station just outside of the central city.
Once you have your ticket, come at the
terminal 30 minutes early and wait in the waiting area; the bus driver will
call your name when the bus arrives. Before you get on the bus, there are a few
things you need to know about the Karakoram Highway, which has had a history of
accidents.
